National Active and Retired Federal Employees

Florida Federation of Chapters

Who We Are

Back

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) was organized on February 19, 1921 by 14 federal retirees in Washington, DC. Since it’s inception, the Association has expanded as members created Chapters throughout the nation and overseas. The Chapters then organized state Federations to serve as a link to the national organization.

The mission of NARFE is to protect the earned benefits of America’s current federal employees, retired federal workers, their families and survivors.

NARFE membership includes about 350,000 members. The National Headquarters is in Alexandria, VA with four elected Resident Officers, ten elected Region Vice Presidents, and its headquarters staff.

With Chapter and Federation members throughout the organization, all work to accomplish NARFE goals: continue recruitment and retention of eligible persons to become members of Chapters; maintain a commitment of service to members and survivors; and, through NARFE’s political action committee (NARFE-PAC) continue to lobby Congress about actions favorable to federal workers and retirees.

The Florida Federation of Chapters is one of the largest with about 20,000 members in 77 Chapters. From these Chapters, many dedicated elected and appointed Federation members make a strong impact on state and national legislatures regarding legislation, health care concerns, and other issues important to federal employees, retirees and their families.

Membership in NARFE and the Florida Federation of Chapters is open to civilians in any agency of the federal government including: current federal employees, retirees, spouses and former spouses of current and retired federal employees, former employees eligible for deferred annuity, and survivors of those eligible to join NARFE.

NARFE is the only national organization dedicated to protecting the interests of current federal employees, federal retirees and their dependents. NARFE has had a remarkable success record and continues its mission of legislative accountability by members of congress, membership recruitment and retention, and service to its members.

Even with about 20,000 members in the Florida Federation of Chapters, there is a very large number – estimated at between 150,000 and 200,000 current and retired federal workers eligible to join NARFE in Florida.

The Florida Federation of Chapters of NARFE encourages eligible individuals to complete the NARFE membership application and become active in a local Chapter.
