Legislative Information Sources or How to Find all you want to know about Bills and Addresses

UP

If you receive e-mails then I know you have a computer and are on the internet. This bulletin will help identify sources for information on the net about Congressional bills and provide help on contacting your Representative and/or Senator.

There are only two places that you need to look for information on bills or addresses. They are the official NARFE web site at www.narfe.org and the Congressional web site at THOMAS.loc.gov . Notice that no www. is used with the THOMAS site. There is another easy way to get into each of these sites. Go to Google and put either NARFE or THOMAS in the address line and then click on the first item on the list that comes up. The information you need on bills is two-fold. You need to know what the bill number and title are and you need to know what it is about. To get a synopsis of the bill go to THOMAS.loc.gov and click on bill summary. Then put either the bill number or the bill name in the address box and follow the prompts. This is also where you get information on cosponsors. To find out what a bill is about go to the NARFE site and click on Legislative Action in the right side bar. After you sign in with your name and ID number follow the prompts to get descriptive information on each bill. Both the THOMAS site and the NARFE site have information and help on contacting your Representative and Senators. You can find both local and DC office staff in the THOMAS site as well as bill information. Just follow the prompts. (Note that neither NARFE or THOMAS are case sensitive. They are only upper case to highlight them.)

Webmaster's Note: All the navigation pages on this website have a link to thomas.loc.gov.
