Role of the Chapter Legislative Officer

bullet The legislation Officer appointed at each Chapter is responsible for the following:
 
  1. Maintains familiarity with current legislative goals and objectives effecting NARFE membership, federal civilian employees, and seniors.
     
  2. Informs membership of legislation which may effect federal civilian retirees, spouses and survivors; and recommends appropriate action when necessary.
     
  3. Instructs the membership on Congressional process of a Bill.
     
  4. Provides expertise and direction for the members, motivating the members and coordinating effective legislative action.
     
  5. Directs campaigns to oppose and defeat unfavorable legislation and regulations directed at federal civilian retirees, spouses and survivors, seniors and NARFE members.

 
bullet The Legislative Officer remains informed on legislation and political action through constant review of national news periodicals, Retirement Life, news media, and Internet accessibility.
 
bullet The Legislative Officer conducts personal visits with Members of Congress in their home office to develop a personal rapport and relationship, and present NARFE's concerns on behalf of the membership.
