Role of the Chapter Service Officer

  1. A Service officer appointed in each Chapter provides the following:
     
    1. Federal procedures governing delivery of annuity checks.
       
    2. Federal Life Insurance and Health Benefits Procedures.
       
    3. Survivor Benefits under current laws administered by OPM.
       
    4. Change of Beneficiary procedure.
       
    5. Death Benefits.
       
    6. State & Federal income tax as related to federal annuities & withholdings.
       
    7. Social security requirements and referral information.
       
    8. Assistance from NARFE Headquarters and the OPM.
       
    9. Rights of divorced spouses to survivor benefits.
       
    10. Requirements for other government programs.
       
  2. Assist Members in locating agencies capable of resolving issues whenever specialized information or assistance is needed.
     
  3. Each Service Officer enhances the service program by frequently reviewing useful information at chapter meetings and in chapter newsletters.
     
  4. Preparation of reports and forms associated with the preceding topics.
