Role of the Chapter Service Officer

- A Service officer appointed in each Chapter provides the following:
- Federal procedures governing delivery of annuity checks.
- Federal Life Insurance and Health Benefits Procedures.
- Survivor Benefits under current laws administered by OPM.
- Change of Beneficiary procedure.
- Death Benefits.
- State & Federal income tax as related to federal annuities &
withholdings.
- Social security requirements and referral information.
- Assistance from NARFE Headquarters and the OPM.
- Rights of divorced spouses to survivor benefits.
- Requirements for other government programs.
- Assist Members in locating agencies capable of resolving issues whenever
specialized information or assistance is needed.
- Each Service Officer enhances the service program by frequently
reviewing useful information at chapter meetings and in chapter newsletters.
- Preparation of reports and forms associated with the preceding topics.
